THE RENOVATION: OGDEN AVENUE—A DIAMOND IN DISGUISE

Project Type: Commercial,

A 134-year old row house on the Jersey City Palisades is transformed into a spectacular oasis, custom-built to accentuate stunning Manhattan views.

Structural Workshop, LLC is proud to be a part of this amazing project. As the Structural Engineer of Record, Structural Workshop assisted in working through many challenges to help create a one of a kind property overlooking the Manhattan skyline. How do you retrofit a 134-year-old structure for a rooftop pool, much less get the pool onto the building? Is it possible to create useable space at the basement level if it means excavating stone that’s 200 million years old? When the Owner acquired the property, it was a non-descript two-story building in dire need of TLC. A new steel frame was constructed inside of the existing building to support the rooftop deck and pool independently of the existing structure. The basement was underpinned and lowered. After hundreds of hours of arduous renovations and improvements, it’s now a sophisticated retreat with modern, industrial finishes throughout.
